Import & Export Your Campaigns

When you build a campaign in FreeVTT, you own it completely. You can export the entire thing into a single file. Every page, every character, every map, all your custom compendium content, handouts, art assets, everything. Save it wherever you want.

Want to move your campaign to a different computer? Export it, copy the file over, import it. Want a backup before you try something risky? Export it first. Want to share a campaign setup with a friend? Send them the file. It's that simple.

Exporting is literally one button. On the home screen, each campaign has an "Export" button. Click it, and FreeVTT packages everything up into a JSON file and downloads it. No complicated menus, no selecting what to include. It grabs everything.

Importing is just as easy. On the home screen, click "Import Campaign," select the file, and FreeVTT creates a new campaign with all your stuff. The original export stays untouched, so you always have your backup.

Since FreeVTT stores everything locally on your device, the export/import feature is how you move campaigns between machines. Build your campaign on your desktop, export it, then import it on your laptop for game night. Or send it to a co-DM who wants to run a session.

I know local storage might seem limiting, but it's what keeps FreeVTT free. No server to maintain means no costs to pass on to you. The export feature makes sure you're never locked in.
