2024 D&D 5e SRD Included

All the free official content, ready to use, plus room for your homebrew.

The Full SRD, Built Right In

FreeVTT comes with the complete 2024 D&D 5th Edition System Reference Document. That's the free official content that Wizards of the Coast releases under Creative Commons. You get spells, monsters, classes, species, backgrounds, items, and feats, all ready to use from the moment you create a campaign.

No extra downloads. No content packs to buy. No "unlock this module for $9.99." The SRD is baked into FreeVTT because that content should be accessible to everyone running a D&D game.

What's In the SRD?

The System Reference Document is pretty comprehensive. Here's what you get:

  • Spells - Hundreds of spells from cantrips to 9th level, fully detailed with casting time, range, components, and descriptions
  • Monsters - A huge bestiary of creatures with full stat blocks, attacks, and abilities
  • Classes - All the core D&D classes with features and progression
  • Species - Character species with traits, abilities, and subspecies
  • Items & Equipment - Weapons, armor, gear, and magic items
  • Backgrounds & Feats - Character options for building unique characters

Character Building with SRD Content

When your players create characters in FreeVTT, they can pull directly from the SRD. Pick a class, choose a species, select a background, add spells. It's all right there in the compendium. The character sheet handles the math automatically, so ability modifiers, proficiency bonuses, and spell save DCs are all calculated for you.

It's honestly a pretty solid character building experience considering it's free. And since the sheets are attached to tokens, everything is right there during gameplay.

Add Your Own Homebrew

The SRD is great, but every DM has custom stuff. Custom spells, homebrew monsters, unique magic items, original subclasses. FreeVTT's compendium supports all of it. You can add custom content for pretty much everything: spells, monsters, species, subspecies, classes, subclasses, backgrounds, items, and feats.

Your homebrew content works exactly like the official SRD content. It shows up in the same lists, can be added to character sheets the same way, and gets exported when you export your campaign. No separate plugins or modules needed.

Updated for 2024

FreeVTT uses the latest 2024 edition of the SRD, not the older 2014 version. That means you get the most up-to-date rules, revised spells, and the latest class features. As Wizards of the Coast updates the SRD, I'll keep FreeVTT up to date too.
